Sync Is Ink's - an origin yarn
Syncisink was born during an argument with AI.
Circa 2023. I had known that the GPT and Claude cousins had been out in the market for over a year. I didn't want to use and hadn't. My think was simple: I think. Therefore I write. And then I edit or publish or sit and stew over my product. I don't need AI help.
My then client had run about 300-odd miles in the opposite direction. They were already urging their employees to "not be shy about using AI."
I'm a proud person. And roughly 50% of my pride comes from my sense of language, indeed, from the appetite for using language.
My first use-case of ChatGPT: I put in a heavy-ish paragraph into its chat console for condensing, for those same work people. I watched wistully as it ate up 78% of the nuance I had heartily built. I turned over the effluent of that chat to my client and didn't look at AI chat assistants for 18 months more.
In 2024, I felt tempted to tell the chat bot why I didn't agree with it. It was a time when I doled out "thoughtful" LinkedIn posts in hope of snagging more clients. I hashed over hashtags on the platform itself, and with "an edge," looked sideways into what the GPT could suggest.
#Syncisink flashed into my mind and I shared it with the chat AI.
I could tell how jealous it was. It didn't shower me with praise in its usual saccharine way, although I HAD NOT, by then, learned how turn off the compulsive drumroll tendencies.
I've been posting with the hashtag that's my very own mind-shred on and off.
Now, it's also my website. I like it enough that it's lasted.
